Phil Ingram talks about supporting and developing PROIV users from the Americas to India
If you had to split the globe into two halves, Phil Ingram knows which side he'd rather be on. Phil is PROIV's Director of Technical Services for the western hemisphere, and he believes that his half-globe (a region that stretches from the Americas westwards through Asia and Australasia to India) is where the economic action will be in the 21st century.
Phil and his team help PROIV customers - end users and value-added resellers - develop their systems to meet the challenges of business in a global market. There's virtually no aspect of support and development to which they can't lend a helping hand.
Phil's operational base is in Irvine, a town about 50 miles south of Los Angeles. He moved there in 2001 after 13 years with Northgate in the UK.
"It was a life-changing experience", he says. "There's a can-do attitude here that's lacking in Europe. This is a more dynamic region altogether."
With such a forward-looking approach, Phil's customers are highly receptive to the idea that revitalising their systems and business processes can make a huge difference to their business.
He explains: "Many people don't realise that there's still plenty of value in legacy systems. The applications are stable - they rarely go wrong - yet they can't interact with other systems. That's where we can help by, for example, bringing in web services and making applications available over the internet. We can upgrade hardware, migrate databases and bring older technologies into line with modern expectations.
"We're here to solve problems and help customers move their businesses forward with anything from application development to training. But first we need to talk. Customers don't necessarily know what a difference we can make until they speak to us.
"The western hemisphere contains numerous markets with a huge potential for growth. My job is to help PROIV customers make the most of that potential."
