PROIV Change Management – new release now available

PROIV Change Management is an additional PROIV option that helps you to control source code, track build progress and manage releases. It enhances the existing VIP locking functionality to introduce a formal booking in and out process, as well as automatically backing up the source code and producing an audit trail.

The February 2006 release of PROIV Change Management is a welcome addition to the PROIV environment. As anyone who works in a development team of more than a couple of people will know, keeping track of source versions and knowing who is working on what is quite a challenge. There’s no need to maintain a separate list or spreadsheet – it’s all in the PROIV environment. In addition, PROIV Change Management helps to secure your environment and improve release quality as only authorised changes can be made to your software. And if anything does go wrong, a previous source code version can be retrieved at any time.

PROIV Change Management gives each software change a number to uniquely identify it. Change numbers are grouped into a software release that is associated with a VIP project. When it's time to issue a release, all relevant changes and associated VIP objects are automatically selected. This process includes an approval mechanism to stop anything other than approved changes going forward into the software release.

Productivity is also greatly enhanced because with PROIV Change Management, everyone on a project can see who is working on what. For the Project Manager there is a change console that provides a visual indication of release status. The same console lets you approve and un-approve changes, import and export releases, view the audit logs and restore previous versions.
